Bovone Robotic Edging Line

Bovone are leading the way in volume glass processing. As an alternative to a double edging line, the solution from Bovone is 2 x straight line edgers facing each other with a robot placed at each end of the infeed conveyors for loading / turning / unloading. Assorted batches of work are loaded onto trollies, identified with bar codes. The operator places the trolley in the working zone, exits the area and then the line controls everything. All the adjustments for grinding, speed, thickness, size and even wheel wear are executed automatically.  Please click on the YouTube button below to see the line in operation.

The operating steps are as follows: 

1) The operator positions a glass rack in the working zone, exits the safety cage and robot No.1 loads the glass onto the infeed conveyor of the first edging machine (1st edge grind).

2) After passing through the first edger, the glass is removed from the exit conveyor by robot No.2 and after rotating by 90°, is placed on the infeed conveyor of the second edging machine (2nd edge grind).

3) After passing through the second edger, the glass is taken from the exit conveyor by robot No.1 and after rotating by 90°, is placed back onto the infeed conveyor of the first machine (3rd edge grind).

4) After passing through the first edger again, the glass is taken from the exit conveyor by robot No.2 and after rotating by 90°, it is places on the infeed conveyor of the second edging machine (4th edge grind). Finally, robot No.1 unloads the glasses onto a trolley.
